What To Wear To Your Boudoir Photography Session

September 1, 2021

There are few things more exciting than preparing for your first boudoir photography session. However, the preparation process can be nerve wracking, especially if you haven’t ironed out all of the details yet. One of the most important things to figure out before shoot day is what to wear.

Thankfully, we’ll dive into some of the most common boudir looks below so that you can determine which outfit (or lack thereof) makes the most sense for you. After all, your sexy glamour shots should capture what makes you feel beautiful. Here’s a quick guide on what to wear to your boudoir photo shoot.

1. Nothing At All

For a super intimate feel, there’s no better look than au’ naturale. Your photographer will work with you to highlight your natural beauty, utilizing creative lighting and direction to help you feel comfortable, confident, and most importantly, sexy! A nude look can also be paired with a couple of meaningful accessories like a bracelet or necklace to add a little extra flair.

Regardless of which look you land on, you’ll want to give your body some extra TLC in the days leading up to your boudoir photography session. This means getting extra sleep, staying hydrated, and giving yourself plenty of time to relax before and after shoot day. It also means taking care of any pre-shoot hair, nail, or waxing appointments before shoot day arrives.

2. Form-Fitting Jeans

There are few limits to boudoir photography outfits, and your favorite pair of jeans is no exception. If you’re hoping to highlight your natural curves throughout the boudoir photoshoot, make sure to propose different types of form-fitting clothing you already have at home.

You might also be shooting in more than one outfit, so make sure you discuss with your photographer different clothing combinations well-before shoot day. The night before you take your sexy glamour shots, pack the car with everything you need so that there’s no stress on the way out to your session.

3. An Oversized Shirt

Not everyone equates form-fitting to sexy and that’s totally okay! An oversized shirt can make an amazing boudoir outfit on its own. Remember, the goal is to help you embody your most confident self. Therefore, seek out something you’re truly comfortable in. Don’t worry too much about direction– That’s why your photography is there to guide you. There are no wrong answers as long as you feel great in what you’re wearing.

4. Your Favourite Intimates

Of course, a boudoir photography classic is your favorite set of intimates or lingerie. That being said, you’ll want to make sure that your selection fits you properly. Wearing anything that’s too small may leave harsh red marks on the skin. Additionally, something that’s too large may not be accenting your natural features in the most ideal fashion.

If you’re looking for a two-piece set, make sure that all of the individual pieces match and stay within the same color scheme. You might also want to bring some layering pieces with you, so think about how your undergarments can shine underneath an open shirt, sweater, or other layering piece.

5. Something That Flows

Another approach to your boudoir photography wardrobe is focusing your outfits around textures. For a flowing, smooth feel, consider fabrics like satin and chiffon. These semi-opaque fabrics can add a sultry element to your boudoir photography session, and hug your body’s best features without feeling overly restrictive.

You can even opt to wrap yourself in the fabric alone. This is a great option for anyone who wants to create a super intimate mood with or without full nudity.

6. Use a Wrap, Robe or Shawl

Do not underestimate the power of layering pieces during your boudoir session. Go ahead and pack your favourite robe and shawl. You can pose in these pieces alone, or use them in teaser shots accenting your intimates or body underneath. Take care to make sure that your wrap of choice matches with your underlying intimate set.

7. Accessories

Accessories can make or break a photoshoot, and boudoir photography is no exception. Be sure to discuss your full vision of your outfit with the photographer, including any extra bells and whistles. Consider bringing items like necklaces, earrings, rings, chokers, or even hats or scarves with you to your boudoir session. Long stockings or high socks can also have their own allure.

If you think of anything else, propose it to your photographer! Little details can be incredibly charming and add a lot of personality to your boudoir photos. Something personal like a favorite sweatshirt or thoughtful bracelet can easily be incorporated into your session.

8. Don’t Forget The Shoes

While you’re likely not prancing around your home in your favorite pair of 6-inch heels, boudoir photos can create the fantasy that you do– and look amazing while doing it! Pairing sexy shoes with your boudoir outfit can up the ante in the best way, so be sure to take them into consideration. Thigh-high boots, heels, or even strappy sandals can make great options.

It’s also worth thinking about your ideal hair and makeup look. While your stylist will ultimately execute these components on shoot day, having an idea of what you want vs. don’t want can go a long way. You can always make a mood board with potential boudoir look ideas as well– Share your thoughts with your photographer so that you’re able to make your vision a reality.

At the end of the day, don’t forget to have fun. Regardless of what you wear, you’re sure to look absolutely stunning in your sexy photo shots. Soak up every moment of celebrating your natural beauty!
