What’s the Best Time to Take Maternity Photos and Look Your Best

December 20, 2021

You know the feeling when everything seems to be far away yet you feel a heavy burden? That’s what it’s like to be in the third trimester of your pregnancy. There are several ups and downs, and let’s not forget nausea and the crazy hormones that make you feel like you’re on a roller coaster.

That being said, there’s no denying that pregnancy is a life-changing experience and a very special time for all moms-to-be. You’re excited yet scared by the thought of bringing a new life into this world. And you must capture and document this time so you can look over it fondly.

If you’re stumped about the details like when or where to schedule your maternity photoshoots, then go through our blog to learn more.

The Best Time to Schedule a Maternity Photoshoot

The timing component is crucial for a hassle-free photography experience and amazing final images. That’s why all experts recommend scheduling your maternity shoot between 28 to 36 weeks. That’s as early as the seven months but no later than the eighth month.

This timeframe during the third trimester is the best to take photos. The bump is round and fully visible. The expectant mother still feels somewhat comfortable as she’s more comfortable carrying her bump till that point and has minimum or no symptoms like nausea or morning sickness.

It’s less tiring for them to stand and pose during the photoshoot. It’s late but not too late, which allows the expectant mothers to look very pregnant and show off their baby bumps.

Expecting Multiple Babies

Every situation is different when it comes to pregnancy, so the number of babies the mother is expecting also counts.

If the mom-to-be is expecting twins or triplets, schedule the photoshoot as early as the second trimester, even if the babies are weeks away from coming into the world.

Around 13 to 24 weeks is the ideal time in such a case.

High-risk Pregnancy Situations

It’s common to experience complications and risks during pregnancies. And even though most high-risk pregnancies reach their term smoothly, it’s best to stay safe and schedule a maternity shoot between the second trimester.

Final Thoughts

As long as the mom-o-be feels comfortable, photos can even be taken at the last moment right outside the delivery room. However, most moms like to have a fully themed photoshoot, so scheduling it between the recommended time window is ideal.

There’s a lot of creative planning and direction behind a maternity shoot. So, it’s important to create a level of trust and comfort between the client and the photographer.
